PEMA Praha
Czech Republic
CEO
In the PEMA Praha was an importer for VOLVO Truck Corporation to the Czech Republic. Concurrently the company had import contracts with other, mainly German manufacturers such as KRONE, KARFA, VOCOL, etc.
During this period held the position of Sales Manager, being responsible for a team of 4 dealers and utility vehicle sales, primarily in the form of sales and financial leasing for the Czech Republic, and, up until 1994, also to Slovakia.
At the end of 1996 appointed to the post of company Executive and General Manager. Directly managed sales and a team of dealers, and secured communication between parent and subsidiary company in specific business transactions. Via department managers also managed the activities of individual departments such as leasing, accounting, service, storage and used vehicle sales.
In 1996, with the expiration of the VTC import contract approaching, we decided to restructure our offer and transfer the mass of interest in the company's products into an area of services, in particular rentals, which at that time were absolutely un-marketed and unmarketable in the Czech Republic, whereas in the German market rentals were a common and stabilised product. During the first year we rented and released roughly 150 vehicles into the market, and the following year concluded with a rental vehicle fleet of about 300 vehicles.
Later involvement
From a product that was an outsider in the utility vehicle market, we created a new category in which we were the absolute best. Not only did this new category provide access to the trade press pages for us, but also opened for us the doors of customers for whom we may not have been of much interest without an import contract. We abandoned our original presentation methods relating to our products' technical characteristics and changed over to open, rational economic presentation. The year 2008 concluded with 1,600 vehicles in our vehicle fleet.
During the economic crisis our vehicle count reduced to 1,200 pcs. In relation to the situation on the German market, which is roughly 8x bigger as per Germany's population, our parent company had some 5,000 active vehicles with customers. That is, relatively as per the number of people, this represented about half of our volume.
At around 2000, upon the departure of the company's marketing manager, took over the company's marketing communications on top of his management activities in predominantly sales, and from that year directly managed and communicated the company's marketing strategy, budgets, advertising planning, wrote articles and interviews.
After 2008 when the French banking group Societe Generale took over PEMA, the style of work within the company changed from a large European company managed directly from its parent company by its private owners, i.e. structurally simple, to a European holding with a structure evoking the structure of banking companies with corresponding processes for managing sales and risks. Hence in the last 3 years acquired experience working in a bank holding.
Additional Information on above Work Experience:
The PEMA group of companies with headquarters in Herzberg am Har, Germany, is the most significant utility vehicle renter in Europe. Founded in 1977 by Mr Peter Manns, in 1991 the company expanded into the Czech Republic. Following the split up of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic (CSFR) the company established a branch in Slovakia. Following the founder's death in 1997, his son and daughter took charge of the company.
At present PEMA operates in 12 European countries, mainly in Central and Eastern Europe. The PEMA group operates 15,000 utility vehicles. In 2008 both German partners sold their ownership interest to the banking group Societe Generale. (Societe Generale is the group who, in the Czech Republic, owns e.g. Commercial Bank (Komercni banka). Through this acquisition the group sought to expand its non-banking activities).
Last year PEMA Praha showed turnover of CZK 1.25 bn and as of September 2001, employs 72 staff in the Czech Republic with a profit of CZK 55 m.
At present PEMA is the dominant utility vehicle renter in the Czech Republic with a market share of around 70%.
